“The rapid ascent of Vincent Dancer to the summit of the Burgundian hierarchy has not surprised us. It was easy to see that this young winemaker, an outsider without preconceived notions, impassioned but hard-working, and with some of the Côte de Beaune’s most hallowed terroir at his disposal, would reach very top.” The Greatest Wines of France 2006 (La Revue du Vin de France)
“The highly gifted perfectionist, Vincent Dancer, incarnates the new generation of young, dynamic wine growers.” The Greatest Wines of France 2009 (La Revue du Vin de France)
“He is a bright young grower with a huge future ahead of him; Burgundy enthusiasts need to remember this name!” Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate (in 2005)
This tiny, cult producer has created a great deal of excitement since we offered our first allocation a couple of years ago. Some of Burgundy’s most exciting ‘new’ growers have barely made it to our shores simply because they haven’t had any wine to sell to new markets. Vincent Dancer is one of these producers. However, several visits finally yielded us a small allocation which we now get each year. The style of wine produced by Dancer is reminiscent of his colleague Olivier Lamy of Domaine Hubert Lamy - in short, pure, racy, mineral wines with the emphasis on elegance and refinement. Of course the different terroirs of Meursault and Chassagne result in very different wines from those of Lamy. Dancer is not interested in the cheesy, leesy, solidsy, reductive, match-sticky notes that are so prominent on many white Burgundies (and many excellent ones at that!) However if you love finesse, minerality and Mosel-like purity, then these are wines for you. They are wonderfully pure and very rare white Burgundies. All of the wines are very limited with Dancer typically making between 1 and 5 barrels of each cuvée. Only one barrel of the Chevalier!
