Teusner 100 Flowers Botrytis Riesling 2011 (375ml)
The 2011 Vintage gave Kym and Co perfect conditions to produce a vibrant and luscious dessert wine from one of their favourite Eden Valley Riesling blocks. The block in question is an East-facing "Lakeview" section of the Avon Brae vineyard, just on the border of the High Eden sub-region. Planted with the Stornten clone, the fruit sourced from this vineyard always retains its natural acidity.
In 2011 this mineral-laden acid line combined with unctuous botrytis characters to give us a rich, opulent dessert wine that is fresh as a daisy with great drive and vitality on the palate. The nose is beautifully detailed, perfumed fruit on the nose. Aromas of apricot, glaced citrus fruits, poached pear and ripe tropical fruits in the form of pineapple and guava all showing their heads. In the mouth the 100 Flowers Botrytis Riesling shows an unctuous mouth-feel with excellent tension between fruit sweetness and acidity. Flavours of ripe stone-fruits burst from the glass...apricot, peach and nectarine ably supported by hints of marmalade spiced poached pear and glaced citrus fruits. Crème brulee, praline and blossom characters make an appearance on the mid-palate which is lifted, vibrant and pure with a bright line of acidity that drives the wine to a balanced, clean finish. A doozey of a first release.
