North-east of Florence (Carmignano is north-west); the Chianti Rufina DOC is a more northern, higher grown expression of Chianti (in comparison with Chianti Classico) and is rightly famous for the longevity of its Sangiovese based wines. In short, Chianti Rufina are traditionally more structured and longer lived examples of Sangiovese. Selvapiana is one of the top producers of the area with 45ha of vineyards and 31 of olives. The current owner is Francesco Giuntini, but in recent years responsibility for the running of the Estate has been handed to Francesco’s son Federico Giuntini and his sister Silvia. Following the path forged by Francesco they continue to work closely with Franco Bernabei, the consultant winemaker at Selvapiana since 1978.
