Does perfection exist in the real world? No. Nor would we want it to. And yet here we
have a set of wines that correspond perfectly, 100%, to our ideal of what the Manzanilla
of San Lucar should deliver. Zing, pang, tang! Cool, citrussy, salty, iodine-noted pleasure
in a bottle. And what about the prices?! With some of these wines in solera for over 10
years, they represent startling value. Nobody does this wine style better in our opinion, or
at better prices, than Argueso. Yes there are other good wines on the market, but none
have the sheer racy, purity that we love about Argueso. Aiding the style is the fact that we
ship the wines of this classic Manzanilla producer several times a year, bottled to order,
ensuring maximum freshness. These are wines that offer a wonderful contrast to the
more full-bodied Manzanilla more commonly found in our market. Put any of these on by
the glass with oysters, prawns or anything salty and watch your audience’s delight.

Bodega Argüeso was founded in 1822 by Don Leon de Argüeso and the company still
operates from the original bodegas, which are now over 250 years old. They have as
many as 15,000 butts of ageing wine and are highly respected in Sherry country for the
impressive quality and age of their wines. They may not be the most visible producer in
Sherry’s traditional export markets, though there is good reason for this. As John Radford
has pointed out, Argüeso wines are so good that they have never had to spend money
on marketing - these Manzanilla’s are the wine of choice in many Sanlucar bars – often
poured straight from barrel.
