Luciano Sandrone will need no introduction to Barolo aficionados. This is the first time we have ever been able to make a general offer of this producer’s wines. Previous shipments have been so small that we have been forced to strictly allocate the wines. With the wines below, we were able to secure a second allocation and so we offer them here. The wines remain limited and it is highly likely that future offers will be allocations to previous buyers. This then is an opportunity to ensure you are on the list for future offers.
We know that many of our clients know a thing or two about Barolo. And there’s a fair chance also that you know something about the quality and style of wine produced by this benchmark grower. Let us tell you only this; the 2006 Barolo from Sandrone are brilliant wines and – true to style – offer a remarkable synergy between the classic and the modern. For me, Sandrone is the producer whose wines most remind me of Burgundy. The suave, seamless texture, fine tannins and depth of flavour of these Barolos makes them some of the most sought-after wines of the region. With age, they are so polished, so pure, so seductive. Sandrone uses 500lt barrels (typically only 10% - 20% new), picks at very low yields and bottles his wines before they lose their freshness or purity. His wines are wonderfully intense and vibrant with ripe, fine tannins. Like most of the greatest producers, he takes the best of the old school and the best of the new.
