Landron Amphibolite 2010

This is simply mineral juice and fine and delicate and racy a white as you are likely to find from the Loire. The cuvée derives its name from the greenish metamorphic bedrock (Amphibolite) that was formed in the local soils when the oceans receded millions of years ago. Nature is used as in the sense of 'naked', nothing but the pure, unadulterated expression of the soil. Produced from vines aged 23-40 years old, this unique wine is vinified with only a short time on its lees, as Jo wants to retain as much freshness and minerality as possible, and only minor doses of sulphur to block the malo. Bottling occurs early, in February, again to retain the essence of the wine, without filtration. Many would have tasted this with Jo at the Return to Terroir tasting so will now the quality and deliciousness on offer. It's an ultra pure, low alcohol expression of Muscadet loaded with free flowing minerals, citrus, iodine and salts beside lovely crunchy red appleskin, lime leaf and crab apple fruits. With its naturally derived CO2 petillance intact, it's an ultimate aperitif, although a wine with enough texture to allow freshness and flavours of raw seafood to shine. A vivacious and very natural (we use this in the words purest sense, Jo isn't a natural wine ideologue) Muscadet whose intrinsic worth extends well beyond a partner for oysters. Open a bottle and watch it disappear in a heart beat.
