Francois Labet Bourgogne 2009

You may remember we offered the 2008 version of this wine earlier in the year and it sold like crazy. On vintage reputation alone the 2009 should sell at least as fast, so if you are interested please let us know. Thankfully we have managed to order more this time around.

I’m sure most of our customers will have already heard the hype regarding the 2009 Burgundies (and the wines across Europe in general). It really is quite a remarkable year that has produced wines that are both juicy and ripe and wildy seductive. This seductiveness is quite a contrast to the last truly great vintages of 1999 and 2005 where the reds were far more densely structured. Having said this, the Bourgogne Rouge 2009 we offer below actually does have some structure thanks to the 50% whole bunches – quite unusual for a Burgundy at this price level. It has also just landed this week so it’s still tight but is still a fabulous value. It will only get better as it settles.

This is the first Côte d’Or Burgundy that we have landed from this remarkable year. It’s made by François Labet, one of the region’s pioneers in natural viticulture and the largest vineyard holder in the Clos de Vougeot with Château de la Tour. It’s not only brilliantly priced Bourgogne but we have it under Stelvin. We also have some of Labet’s 2008 Bourgogne Chardonnay Vieilles Vignes back in stock – a clean, zippy and bone dry Chardonnay and again an excellent value. learn more
