EDEN ROAD WINES

CANBERRA DISTRICT

What the critics are saying:

“...Eden Road's operations since 2008 centre on Hilltops, Canberra District and Tumbarumba. The business utilises the Kamberra Winery built by Hardys to the highest standards. At the Royal Melbourne Wine Show '09 Eden Road's The Long Road Hilltops Shiraz '08 was awarded the Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy; if it needed a higher profile, it now has one.” ***** Outstanding Winery, James Halliday, 2012 Australian Wine Companion

Winner: Best New Winery “Canberra is an exciting region at the moment, and there are many new players hitting unthinkable heights of quality.  Winemaker Nick Spencer has demonstrated – across a whole range of styles and prices – that Eden Road Wines is a force to be reckoned with.” Nick Stock,
The Age/SMH Good Wine Guide 2011

Winner: Jimmy Watson Trophy 2009

2011 was a massive year for Nick and the Eden cru. As well as Nick being a finalist in the Young Guns Of Wine and the critical sucess of their 2010 Shiraz release, Eden Road is now firmly ensconced in their new digs – a winery in Murrumbateman, replete with a mature vineyard on the local volcanic soils. Their neighbours include a little know producer called Clonakilla... who apparently make a tidy Shiraz or two? Eden Road is already recognised as one of the hottest prospects in the domestic wine scene and the quality of their new Estate fruit is bound to further enhance their reputation as a producer of wonderfully elegant, site-driven wines.

Here we have a young yet experienced winemaker, Nick Spencer, with a crystal clear, long-term vision, making a range of exceptional, high-grown wines at remarkable prices. Already this producer has won the Jimmy Watson Trophy (with its first, very elegant Shiraz), received a Halliday 5 star rating in the recently released 2012 edition of Wine Companion and was awarded the ‘Best new winery’ gong in the Age/SMH Good Wine Guide. And this is only their third set of wines! The overall quality across the range is simply exceptional for the prices being asked while the style is all about elegance and refined drinkability. This is new wave Australian at its best.

The Eden Road wines all derive primarily from the ACT/NSW ‘High Country’ regions of Canberra District, Hilltops, Gundagai and Tumbarumba. The name has nothing to do with the Eden Valley. In fact Eden Road is supposed to suggest an ideal (as in the Garden of Eden), not a place. The aim of this producer is to create a distinctive, clean and pure, refined range of wines from the cool climate vineyards of NSW and the continental climate of the Canberra district. And with access to a superb range of vineyards and a state of the art winery, they are in the perfect position to do just that.
