Eden Road The Long Road BDX Merlot,Petit Verdot,Malbec 2009
Like the Barbera-blend, BDX is Eden Road's own take on an Old World classic - in this case Bordeaux, hence the name. While Spencer is looking for classic Medoc character - perfume, elegance and power - he is happy to let his vines to express themselves with a rich, fresh exuberance which, in this case, is distinctively Canberra and Clare. BDX is 57% Canberra Merlot, 41% Clare Valley Malbec and 2% Petit Verdot. It is rich, concentrated and juicy packed with primary dark fruit. There is mulberry, prune and licorice on the nose and palate, with fine tannins. Finishes very strong - always juicy with violets and graphite.
"Saturated red. Youthfully reticent nose hints at red berries, cherry skin, rose, licorice and tobacco. Quite closed but nicely concentrated, with a spicy quality lifting the powerful raspberry and bitter cherry flavors. This dry, spicy, energetic wine reminded me of a young tangy Bordeaux."
