Dureuil-Janthial Rully En Guesnes Rouge 2009
This Domaine grown Rully red comes from 1.3 ha of 40 year old Pinot Noir vines grown on clay-limestone soils. The fruit is completely de-stemmed, given a cold maceration for eight to ten days, fermented over a further ten days then transferred to barrel, with one third new oak. The wine was then bottled after 18 months élevage. This is pure, racy Pinot Noir from great, old vine material. There are punnets of wild, small, red grenade-like fruits on the nose side by side with some forest floor and peppery spice notes. It's fresh and pure in the mouth with bright fruit and a sappy, clean finish. Only 72 bottles available so the early bird catches the worm!
"An earthier and notably more serious nose of somber red and dark berry fruit aromas that are cut with ample amounts of earth that again also characterizes the rich and relatively dense medium-bodied flavors that possess a seductive texture on the detailed and solidly complex finish. This is good without being truly distinguished." 88 points, Allen Meadows, Burghound.com, Issue 44
