This pioneering Domaine is fabled in France not only for being the benchmark grower in Gaillac but also as saviour of a wide number of the region’s indigenous varieties. Domaine Plageoles celebrate these local varieties by crafting incomparable, organically grown wines with rare soil-to-glass transparency. Bernard Plageoles (who followed on from his legendary father, Robert) now runs the Estate with his charming wife Myriam and son Florent. They have inherited Robert Palgeoles infectious passion for Gaillac and its native grapes. And they are making ever finer wines. With the quality and distinctiveness of said wines, this family of custodian-vignerons are helping us understand why Gaillac was once such a renowned wine region.
If you ever get to Gaillac, there is a handy wine bar there by the name of Vigne en foule that is well worth a visit.
