Throughout history, Eszencia has been perhaps the world's most revered, the most legendary of all sweet wines - even meriting mention in Hungary's national anthem. This is an "Aszu Essencia" which means it is made from shrivelled, botrytised grapes, in the usual 'Aszu' fashion, but that the concentration exceeds the top Aszu level of six 'Puttonyos'. The botrytised, Aszu grapes picked one by one and are then foot trodden to begin the winemaking process. As we know, 1993 is one of the truly great Tokaj vintages and the first great harvest post the Communist era. So you can expect something very special here from a great producer like Disznoko. The wine allies the energy and brightness, that you find in all Disznoko wines, with the creamy texture and honey-like concentration of Eszencia. It's powerful and wildly complex with honey, pear, dried figs, almond and apricot aromas and flavours. Even some chocolate. Yes it is a very rich wine, yet it shows impeccable balance and great finesse. A remarkable wine now, it will continue developing for decades.
