Clinet Pomerol 2006
30% Cheaper than '05. Clinet is at the highest elevation of the Pomerol plateau. The deep gravel with clay and marl vineyard (9ha) is planted to 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Average production is only 3,000 cases. Clinet has been an outstanding performer for many years. As the name would suggest, it is adjacent to the other estate with Clinet in its name - l'Eglise Clinet. Bill Blatch: 4/5
Robert Parker: [WA] 90-92 points, outstanding "Clinet seems to have come of age over the last several vintages. Another strong effort, the dark ruby/purple-hued 2006 offers sweet aromas of blueberries, plums, black cherries, smoke, and toasty oak. Opulent, medium to full-bodied and rich with a good tannic structure in the finish, this fleshy Pomerol will be accessible in 3-4 years and keep for 15-18+."
Stephen Tanzer: [IWC] 92-94 points, outstanding "(90% merlot and 10% cabernet franc) Deep ruby-red. Musky, wild aromas of dark fruits, coffee and chocolate. Sweet but tightly wound and high-pitched, with a lovely spine of acidity energizing the mid-palate. This seems less supple than VCC and Lafleur, which I tasted just before this visit, but offers terrific inner-mouth verve and breadth and an almost medicinal character and firm structure that suggests it will develop quite slowly in bottle. The subtle, building tannins reach the molars. Intriguing torrefaction notes through to the aftertaste."
Jancis Robinson: 16 points "Very deep crimson. Healthy, bloody, round impact. Soft and velvety. Very low-key and mild. Then the dry tannins on the finish. Not quite mellifluous - very dry finish. Not quite as over the top as some other recent vintages of Clinet. Drink 2014-19."
James Lawther: [Decanter] 4 Stars "Beautifully aromatic, harmonious wine. Burgundian raspberry and spice nuance. Mellow fruit and fine tannic frame. Long, fresh finish. 2014-2025."
