2009 invited the classical, elegant red Burgundies from this quintessential Domaine to let their hair down, grab some rays and put a little more pulpy flesh on their Côte de Beaune frames. The result of this warm, sunny vintage is probably the finest, and certainly the most delicious set of wines that we have shipped from this producer.

"Two thousand nine is the yummy vintage." These words by Claude de Nicolaÿ offer some idea as to what to expect from this Domaine’s wonderful 2009’s. While this is a traditional producer who makes structured wines for the long haul - utilising 100% whole bunch and no new oak - the ‘09s also offer plenty of juicy fruit and lifted aromatics. They are also far more deeply coloured: a riot of purple, mauve and violet. As always, they are years away from showing their best, and yet these 2009s have the flesh to be enjoyed young, especially with the right food and especially after a good decant.

It’s hardly breaking news that 2009 ranks among the very best Burgundy wine vintages of recent times. At one stage we may have been tempted to play down the hype surrounding this vintage. Then we... learn more
