There is no region in Spain more traditionally associated with quality dry Rosé production than Cigales, on the banks of the Pisuerga Rivera just north of the city of Valladolid. The region lies midway between Ribera del Duero and Rueda. The Rosado (rosé) produced here are bone dry and textural, full bodied yet supremely lively and refreshing. As such they work very well with food.. Below we offer the 2010 vintage, just in time for spring.. The typical Cigales soils are of sedimentary chalk and clay. Climate is continental with a mild Atlantic influence. The summers are hot, dry and long giving deep, vivid color to the red grape skins. Low-yield viticulture and careful hand harvesting is followed by destemming and cold maceration on the skins in stainless tanks for a minimum of 12 hours. The must is then racked for a clear-juice fermentation under temperature control. The resulting wine has plenty of colour, flavours, body and character and a crunchy, refreshing close. The price speaks for itself.
