In a wine world where organic and biodynamic viticulture is becoming increasingly popular, one would assume that the fame of this exemplary domaine would have by now spread outside of Spain’s borders. Instead, without all the hoopla, the Callejo family calmly go about crafting some of the finest, bright and flavoursome Tempranillo we have tasted. The vineyards are brilliant; between 850-900 metres in altitude, rich in limestone and in the best zone. Old vines are obligatory. The viticulture is organic and everything here is done by hand, according to the minimal intervention model; manual harvesting, natural yeast fermentation, no fining or filtering. Add the next-gen passion of the two young, well travelled Callejo siblings (more below) and the results are quite delicious: supple, expressive and thoroughly enjoyable Tempranillo. Oh, and they get great scores AND they even have a sorting table that vibrates.
